In an electrifying ABPL encounter, Austin Arsenal pulled off a sensational upset, securing a resounding 5-0 win over a formidable Leander FC side. Despite missing their top players, the determined Arsenal squad, led by newly appointed captain Rubayet, showcased a remarkable display of skill and teamwork.

With the inclusion of talented newcomers Hamid and Faiyaz, who made significant contributions with two goals each, Arsenal dominated the game from start to finish. However, it was their captain and goalkeeper Rubayet who truly stole the show, thwarting every attack launched by the trio of Sabbir, Liton, and Anhaf with awe-inspiring saves.

In a highly intense first half, Leander FC applied relentless pressure and came tantalizingly close to scoring. However, the rock-solid defensive lineup of Arsenal, comprising Sudan, Iqbal, Tuhin, and Jewel, stood firm and made it incredibly challenging for their opponents to breach their backline. Arsenal’s midfield trio of Deedar, Sakif, and Moshiur displayed exceptional cohesion and control, but they struggled to break through the formidable defensive trio of Zahedul, Nuruzzaman, and Sanjoy from Leander FC.

Leander

The second half witnessed a flurry of counter-attacks from both teams, but it was Arsenal who struck first. Manik capitalized on excellent passes from Deedar, Moshiur, and Manik to unleash a well-placed shot beyond Leander’s goalkeeper, Mahabub. Determined to equalize, Leander launched rapid attacks, only to be denied by Arsenal’s resilient defenders and Rubayet’s outstanding one-on-one save against Liton.

Substitute Ahsan Kabeen Palash made a significant impact on the wing, earning two penalties for Arsenal. While Sudan missed the first spot-kick, Faiyaz converted the second, further increasing Arsenal’s lead. With Leander’s defense weakened in their desperate pursuit of goals, Hamid seized the opportunity, netting two quick-fire goals, while Faiyaz added another to complete the impressive 5-0 victory.

This triumph marks Arsenal's first win of the season, injecting them with newfound confidence as they strive to climb the league table. With one game remaining, they have the opportunity to ascend from the bottom and conclude ABPL on a high note.

After a two-week break, ABPL Phase 2 resumed with two thrilling encounters at RRMC’s Field No. 1 last Sunday, July 9th. The teams decided to play an 8 vs 8 game, resulting in fiercely competitive matches and unexpected outcomes.

Game Day 4

In the first match, Austin United South clashed with Austin Arsenal in a hard-fought battle. Despite missing several key players, Austin Arsenal showcased resilience and determination. However, it was Austin United South who emerged victorious with a 2-0 scoreline. Shafiur and Rizwan were instrumental in securing the win with their well-taken goals. The clash between the goalkeepers, Abu Sohel of Austin United South and Rubayet from Austin Arsenal, added another layer of excitement as both made incredible saves to keep their teams in the game.

Austin Arsenal faced the absence of crucial players, including main defender Sanat, who is currently on vacation in Bangladesh, and veteran player Khwaja. On the other hand, Austin United South arrived with their full squad, except for star striker Sahil. Led by the attacking duo of Shafiur and Rizwan, they showcased their firepower and sealed a well-deserved victory.

In the second match of the day, Leander FC struggled with the absence of most of their regular players and had to field loaned players and non-drafted talents. They faced a formidable RRP FC side, resulting in a 6-1 defeat for Leander FC. While Sabbir managed to pull one goal back for Leander, RRP FC dominated the game and found the back of the net on multiple occasions. Dip, Adit, and Neon all displayed their scoring prowess, each contributing a brace to secure a comfortable victory for RRP FC.

Despite the challenges faced by Leander FC, credit goes to their players for giving their all on the field. RRP FC showcased their strength and teamwork, capitalizing on the opportunities to secure a convincing win.

As ABPL Phase 2 continues, we can expect more thrilling matches, fierce competition, and exceptional performances. Stay tuned for the next round of captivating encounters that will surely keep us at the edge of our seats!

Yesterday witnessed two thrilling ABPL matches between Austin Arsenal and Austin United South, as well as RRP FC and Leander FC. Despite missing some players due to the Juneteenth holiday, both teams showcased their skills with the help of guest players.

In the first game, Austin Arsenal clashed with Austin United South in a highly competitive encounter. The match was characterized by fast-paced play and numerous opportunities. Although Austin Arsenal dominated the chances, their forwards Aziz, Ishmam, and Deedar failed to convert. The standout performance came from Austin United South’s guest goalkeeper, Munir, who made remarkable saves to deny Arsenal’s goal-scoring attempts. Meanwhile, Sabbir Jr. and Shafiur led the charge for Austin United South, with guest player Neon eventually netting the decisive goal. Despite Rubayet’s impressive saves in Arsenal’s goal, Neon’s well-placed shot secured a hard-fought victory for Austin United South.

In the second match of the day, RRP FC assembled a star-studded lineup with guest players Sabbir Jr. and Shafiur from Austin United South, as well as Ishmam from Austin Arsenal. On the other hand, Leander FC faced the absence of their key player Liton, who began the game as the goalkeeper. Despite falling behind 2-0, Liton later moved to the front and created several scoring opportunities, but his team struggled to find the back of the net. Leander’s right winger, Sabbir Sr., provided excellent deliveries with his trademark lobs, yet the chances went unexploited or were thwarted by the outstanding saves of goalkeeper Munir. Meanwhile, RRP capitalized on two penalties resulting from handballs, ultimately securing a resounding 4-0 victory.

Both matches were filled with excitement, showcasing the talent and competitive spirit of the teams involved. The ABPL continues to deliver thrilling encounters, promising more thrilling matches in the days to come.

ABPL witnessed two jaw dropping games last night as United South Austin defeated Leander Bandits 2-1 at Williamson County Soccer Field to win the first ever soccer league organized for Austin’s BD community’s players, ABPL (Austin BD-Soccer Premier League). On the other game, Austin Arsenal defeated RRP FC (Round Rock-Pflugerville) 2-0 at RRMC (Round Rock Multipurpose Complex) and confirmed second position irrespective of the result in the final game.

Both Leander and South Austin missed few of their top players, but it was a close game between these two teams. Rezwan jr and Shafiur scored for United South Austin, while Sabbir scored for Leander. Leander lost all the 3 games this season against South Austin.

On the second game of the day, Austin Arsenal and RRP FC played in the beautiful turf field at RRMC ground. Both teams played attacking games and had plenty of chances, but Arsenal managed to earn full points with two goals from Niraf in the first half.

Despite some criticism and skepticism by few, ABPL turned out to become quite popular among the local soccer players and brought lots of soccer players to the field during this hot summer. The final two games of ABPL will take place on next Sunday (July 31st).

ABPL 2022 finally started on May 15th as some soccer enthusiasts from Austin’s BD Community took the giant step of starting the first ever soccer league for Austin’s Bangladeshi amateur soccer players. Four teams taking part in the 2022 league – Austin Arsenal (/North Austin), United South Austin, Leander Bandits and RRP FC (Round Rock – Pflugerville FC). The teams will play against each other three times as there will be a total of 18 games (with each team playing 9 games)

On the first day of April 15th, Austin Arsenal secured a 2-2 draw against RRP FC as Arsenal’s team captain Manar scored a last-minute equalizer after his curved shot entered the post hitting oppositions’ defense. Earlier in the game, AA went up 1-0 after a long-ranged power volley from Mir defeated keeper Munir. But for Round Rock, it was Riyan who scored both the goals from two long distance shots on both halves of the game as RRP FC was comfortably leading 2-1 in the second half. AA’s keeper Abu Sohel made some superb save in the game and deprived Riyan and others to score more goals.

Final Score: Austin Arsenal 2 (Mir, Manar) – RRP FC 2 (Riyan-2)

On the other game of Day 1, United South Austin (USA) defeated Leander Bandits by 3-0 even though Bandits played with two of Austin’s star players – Anuj and Abu Masud (on loan from Austin Arsenal). In addition, Leander had one of Austin’s legendary player/goalkeeper Syed Rana who played very well and made couple of good saves for his team. Team USA came with their full force – in defense, they Oli, Zahedul, in midfield, Polin and Sami and on forward, they had Sahil, Sabik and Rizwan jr. Overall, they were too much for Bandits, who didn’t have all their players on the game day and had to take two players from Austin Arsenal.

Final Score: United South Austin – 3 (Sahil, Sabik & Shaheen) – Leander Bandits – 0

On Day 2, Austin Arsenal team had a memorable victory over United South Austin at Small Middle School field where the south team was the host. Team USA was very confident after their first win (/away victory) over Leander Bandits on the previous week and they had all their star players available for this game. However, it was the Austin Arsenal team with their new and young players who fought too hard to achieve this victory. On defense, it was two new players – Shouvik and Mukim who destroyed the lethal attacks from Sahil, Sami, Sadi and Polin. Captain Manar played in defense and used his experience to foil opposition’s attack. Maher gave the visitors an unexpected lead with a superb long range curly shot. In the second half Abu Masud made it 2-0 after he got a brilliant pass from Mridul and scored with a powerful low strike. Zahedul scored an equalizer for USA few minutes before the game ended.

Final Score: Austin Arsenal 2 (Maher, Abu Masud) – United South Austin 1 (Zahedul)

At Williamson County Soccer field, RRP FC and Leander Bandits played a sublime game as RRP FC didn’t have enough players to form a team and had to take couple of players from LB to form their first eleven. Bandits won the game 7-3.

Final Score: Leander Bandits 7 (Sabbir-2, Ayman-2, Raihan, Anuj, Deedar) – RRP FC 3 (Farhan, Utsho, Hasib)

Current Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola has opened up on seven-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi’s chances of winning the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

Current Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola has opened up on seven-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi’s chances of winning the FIFA World Cup 2022, which is set to take place later this year in Qatar. The Argentine captain was one of the most influential players of Pep’s Barcelona side that won three La Ligas, two Copa del Reys and two UEFA Champions Leagues, among other trophies.

Pep opens up on Lionel Messi's chances of winning World Cup

Pep Guardiola believes that Argentina’s Copa America victory last year will provide them with a major boost in confidence ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2022. “Winning the Copa America for any group gives you a feeling of ‘we did it,’ and I’m sure that will help in the World Cup. I have seen little of Scaloni’s team, but they have not lost for a long time, and that feeling that you are winning and not losing is going to give you strength,” explained the Manchester City coach in an interview with Telemundo Sports.

The Spanish manager also stressed the importance of having a star like Lionel Messi in the squad as he stated, “The fact of having him there, knowing that he has the unique ability to always create two or three personal actions out of nothing, be it goals or generating play with his forward teammates like Di María, Lautaro or Julián Álvarez, that feeling of strength is great.”

In the recently held FIFA World Cup 2022 draw, Argentina was drawn in Group C, which also includes Poland, Mexico and Saudi Arabia. Having won the Copa America last year with Lionel Scaloni in charge, Argentina will not only be the favourites to win their group but will also be one of the favourites to go all the way in winning the World Cup.

Considering that the Argentina managerial role is Scaloni’s first coaching job, there are doubts about whether he can take the side all the way. However, Pep does not believe in the idea of experience as he stated, “It’s all a big lie in football that experience is useful. The one that served you yesterday is no use to you today.”

Messi 2

He went on to add, “The illusion of young people like Scaloni, Aimar and the people they have, gave the group what they needed. Enough, it worked. Why? It’s a mystery. I always give the same example. In a Champions League final, Milan was up 3-0 against Liverpool at halftime. That Milan team probably had the most experience I have seen with Cafu, Maldini, Dida, Nesta, Gattuso, Pirlo, Crespo, Inzaghi… It was 3-0 at the break, and in 20 minutes, 3-3, and they lost.”

The post World Cup Draw Highlights appeared first on ABPL 2022.

]]>

A star-studded ceremony on April 1st revealed the groups for this year’s World Cup in Qatar, even as three teams, including the Americans’ third opponent, still have to qualify.

Louis van Gaal said it all with just the hint of a playful smile. The Netherlands’ draw for the World Cup was not easy, he said, with his characteristic bluntness, and nor was it lucky. It was, instead, “colorful.” That was a better word. Ecuador’s sunshine yellow, Qatar’s rich maroon, Senegal’s deep green and that blazing Dutch orange: colorful.

He tried, as best he could, to hide his delight. He knew, after all, that the dice had fallen for him, and for his team, just as he had predicted — in graphic and not entirely serious terms — that it would. Everyone wanted to draw Qatar, the host and by a gulf the gentlest prospect of the top seeds. Only his team had been chosen.

But Van Gaal is too long in the tooth to be fooled. He knows, too, that World Cup draws are not just bombastic and saccharine and filled with time-wasting and content-filling and Idris Elba; they are chimerical, too. They have an oracular quality. Often, they do not mean what they seem to mean at first reading.

Consider Spain and Germany, for example, drawn together early on in Group E. Their encounter will mark the end of the tournament’s first week; it is the only time two of the anticipated contenders to win the competition, to be crowned world champion, will meet in the opening phase. Both seemed to have drawn the short straw.

And then the balls kept on rolling and the names kept on coming and it turned out that both had, in fact, landed on their feet. Japan will be no pushover, and whichever of Costa Rica or New Zealand fills out the group will hardly be content to go quietly. But none have the resources or the quality or the pedigree of Spain and Germany, and both will be confident of making it through.

Or look at England, which managed to make the semifinals in 2018 — and the final of last summer’s European Championship — by virtue of winning knockout games, in regulation time, against Sweden, a pale Germany and Ukraine.

Its good fortune seemed to have held, drawn with Iran, the United States and one of Scotland, Wales and Ukraine, a group far richer in geopolitical intrigue than it is in elite quality.

“I prefer putting balls in the net than flowers,” said Dragan Skocic, Iran’s Serbian coach, when asked about meeting the Americans, a reference to the two nations’ exchanging bouquets when they met at the 1998 tournament. “Football transcends the political stuff,” said his American counterpart, Gregg Berhalter.

WC Draw

But the group stage draw is not really a draw just for the group stage: It is a road map for the entire tournament, too. If England is to win — as it believes it can, this time, with rather more logic than that of the stopped clock — the incline grows immediately steeper once the knockout stage starts. Senegal, the most complete team Africa has sent to a tournament for more than a decade, may lie in wait in the last 16. Then it could be France, the reigning champion, in the quarterfinals. Whatever lies beyond that may not be immediately relevant.

There will, of course, be some teams who are pleased with their fates: France, certainly, should have little trouble with Denmark and Tunisia and one of Peru, Australia and the United Arab Emirates. The two South American contenders, Brazil and Argentina, will be confident, too.

Even the United States should not be too displeased. “We have the youngest squad at the World Cup,” Berhalter said. “For us, that’s a benefit. The guys are fearless.” England might be comfortable favorites to win their group, but there is no reason to believe the United States — returning after an eight-year absence — cannot finish second.

And there will, of course, be teams who are left to rue their lot. Canada, for example, gracing this stage for the first time since 1986, has a group without a true heavyweight but somehow harder for it: Croatia and Belgium finished second and third four years ago, while Morocco sailed through the arduous process of African qualifying.

Ultimately, though, Van Gaal was right: There is no way of knowing, eight months in advance, who has been lucky and who has not, of which is the smooth draw and which the rough. After all the pomp and the circumstance, the video montages and the marketing spiel dressed up as mission statements, all you can say with any certainty is that it will, when it comes, be colorfu

ABPL Teams’ Positional Analysis: Goalkeepers https://austinbdleague.com/abpl-analysis-keeper-any/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=abpl-analysis-keeper-any Sat, 02 Apr 2022 16:08:48 +0000 https://austinbdleague.com/?p=242 Now that we have the player pool for all the four teams, it's time to go over a series with position by position analysis and we will start with Goalkeepers.

The post ABPL Teams’ Positional Analysis: Goalkeepers appeared first on ABPL 2022.

Overview

This is the first of a series of position by position analysis of the ABPL Teams player pool now that we have list of all the players of all four teams. We will start with our analysis of Goalkeeper. With last year’s Austin BD Soccer tournament is still fresh on mind, we have provided a review of all goalkeepers of all the four teams.

During ABPL, all goalkeepers will have twelve weeks to show their magic and impress the managers of Austin BD Tournament that is scheduled for September this year. It’s inevitable that between now and then, some new keepers will emerge, and some of them will shine or fade away and while we hope that none of them get injured. During these twelve weeks of ABPL, all goalkeepers will have a ton of opportunities to impress the selector of Austin BD national team that may play a match against Houston’s BD team sometime in July or August. Here is a high level overview of what will be going on from now until end of July:

Munir (RRP FC)

Munir

ABPL (Austin BD-Soccer Premier League) is a friendly-competitive social soccer league for Austin’s Bangladeshi Community’s amateur soccer players. Austin has seen a major growth of Bangladeshis in recent years and there has been an increase in the number of amateur/recreational soccer players. In the past, most players played soccer once or twice a week but playing Sunday evening, known as Sunday soccer, is common for most players. During the end of 2021 seasons, some of the players thought it would be a good idea to introduce a soccer league with 4 teams. This is how the idea of soccer league first came up. So, with 4 teams (based on four different parts of Austin), the first ever Austin soccer league (known as ABPL) will kick off on May 15th (Sunday) with all four teams playing on the same day.

RANA sr (Leander Bandits SC)

Rana sr

Rana sr (/aka Rana bhai) will most likely will be the main keeper of Leander Bandits SC though he had not played any soccer since 2019 Austin BD Soccer Tournament when he lead his team Roaring Texas to win the championship. However, he had too many shaky moments in my opinion, but he’s also made some big saves when he’s needed to, specifically in both semifinal and final matches of the tournament. against Mexico. He will be the #2 if the other keeper Tasneem plays for the Bandits, but he will definitely get enough play time for the Bandits

Tasneem (Leander Bandits SC)

Tasneem

Tasneem (aka MK) is one of the finest keepers that Austin had seen in many years. He is renowned for his consistent performances throughout his career, and for his concentration and calm composure under pressure. He has adapted his game with age and used his intelligence to become better positioned and less reliant on instinct, while keeping up with the trends of the modern day goalkeeper.

Abu Sohel (Austin Arsenal)

Abu Sohel

Abu Sohel is a versatile sportsmen who can play any sports in any position and in soccer most teams usually relies on him for his experience as a keeper. He is an intelligent and efficient goalkeeper, who is regarded above all for his physical presence, handling, positional sense, composure and consistency, as well as his ability to communicate with his teammates, organize his defense, and inspire confidence in his back-line. Austin Arsenal (aka North Austin) did not have a first pick goal keeper in their lineup and so they had to loan him from RRP FC.

In last year’s Austin BD Soccer Tournament, he performed really well but his team Roaring Texas got knocked out by a lone goal by Texas Thunders.

He possess significant physical strength, which made him an imposing presence in the area, despite not being the tallest of goalkeepers. Furthermore, he is known for his agility, and also possess excellent reflexes, and good shot-stopping abilities. He is known for his work-rate, mentality, discipline in training, and physical conditioning.

Noor ( RRP FC)

Noor

Noor (/Noor E Alam Sohel) may or may not play as a keeper (as his team has Munir) but there is always a possibility that he will be on that spot at least for couple of games in the league. Noor played his first soccer tournament in Austin last year and surprised everyone by performing brilliantly in that position.

Noor is described as a goalkeeper who “boasts lightning reflexes and good decision-making” and is “a formidable opponent in one-on-one situations”. His playing style, and in particular his speed when coming off his line to anticipate opponents and clear the ball, has led him to be described as a sweeper-keeper.

Fayez (United South Austin)

Fayez

Fayez (also known as Shantonu) has a big summer ahead. He has been transferred to United South Austin (USA) from his original club RRP FC as South team has star players for all positions except a keeper. Fayez had lived and played in South for quite a long time and when USA team started looking for a keeper from other teams, Fayez obviously became their first choice. Fayez played as a keeper for Texas Warriors in last year’s Austin BD Soccer Tournament. He conceded four goals in two matches as his team was on the bottom of the group point table. However, Fayez played well and saved his team from conceding more goals. Fayez is physically strong, complete and athletic goalkeeper. On his day, he can deliver a lot of excellent saves. But he is often criticized for his lack of commitment/unavailability.
